A 1920s Louis Vuitton slogan once read, “Show me your luggage and I’ll tell you who you are.” Nothing screams out the golden age of travel more than these beautiful vintage hotel luggage labels I discovered at London booksellers, Southerans, founded in 1761. I’d consider checking in to any hotel if I knew they’s stick one on my suitcase at check-in.
They came in all shapes, sizes, colours and fonts. They remind me of the golden age of travel, when wealthy adventurous spirits, plenty of time and – of course – money packed their Louis Vuitton trunks and embarked on months-long world ‘grand tours’ in search of cultural wonders, checking into luxurious landmark hotels in exquisite locations along the way.
