When it comes to eating out, I love a no-frills restaurant, where it’s more about the homemade food and cosy atmosphere than designer interiors. However, I have to occasionally allow for an exception to this rule where the appeal lies in design touches that make you go ‘OMG’. So today, I’d like to introduce you to Bob Bob Ricard in Soho, a fabulously over-the-top restaurant in London known for its ‘Press For Champagne’ buttons at every table.
Likened by one food critic to “dining inside a Fabergé egg”, Russian-owned Bob Bob Ricard is the perfect choice for when you want to make a statement. You could say it’s a bit like walking into a Russian-themed Wes Anderson film set, pink waistcoat-clad staff appearing just before you realise you need them and of course there’s always the press for champagne button if you need anything extra.
Amazing, isn’t it? And in case you were wondering, yes it does look just as good on Instagram as it does in these professional shots, from the flowers and old cinema seats in the lobby, the pink menus and matching cloakroom tickets, not forgetting the restaurant’s signature beef wellington for two and the ‘Chocolate Glory’ dessert – chocolate jivara mousse, chocolate brownie, berries, passion fruit and orange jelly…
Best saved for special occasions (a three-course meal for two, with wine and service, costs upwards of £150).
Find Bob Bob Ricard at 1 Upper James St, London W1F 9DF.
