Today, we’re having a tour of The Projects, a co-working space in the Lanes in central Brighton, close to the seafront that looks more like a stylish home than an office. I’m seriously considering moving in right away, but am mainly eager to pass on the tip to other Brighton entrepreneurs and freelancers or anyone just looking for something a little bit different in a shared office. What other office do you know of in Brighton where armchairs surround the fire ready for cosy nights in the sitting room complete with a bar?

I’ve worked from home so long now, I’ve forgotten what it’s like to be in a Brighton co-working office. Some days I love being at my little dining table. It has its obvious perks. But other days, I need the routine of getting up, getting dressed, and just going to work. Walking to the office and grabbing a coffee on the way – these are the weird little rituals I have been missing since working from home. Traditional co-working spaces are alright, I suppose. But I’ve never found one that feels like the right place to inspire me to rev my engines. Until now…

There’s also an on-site cafe, little phone booths for private conversations, big meeting rooms and a games room. It also has a heartwarming backstory. Not only is it located on one of Brighton’s oldest streets, the building it’s set inside was once the office of Brighton’s first-ever solicitor, William Attree, who helped the Prince Regent buy the land on which he built the Pavilion. Who knew?

There’s even a roof terrace for summer barbecues as well as yoga classes on offer and so much more.

If you just want somewhere to go now and again, for £20 a day you get a beautiful space to work, create and have meetings in, unlimited all-you-can-drink artisanal coffee and tea, an on-site café called Lost in the Projects, a full-time super friendly concierge at your service, telephone/video conferencing access, free lockers, a library of quirky surroundings and of course, Wi-Fi.
If you want something more long-term to call your home away from home for £225 a month… they also do 40-hour-month memberships for £100 and 80-hour/month memberships for £150, which can also be shared. Permanent desks start at £325 and there are a few private offices available, too.

Discover The Projects at 8–9 Ship Street, Brighton BN1 1AD, close to this hidden street and the seafront. You can also find them on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. Open Monday to Friday….
