It usually takes around 80 hours – or six days – to travel the 2500-odd miles from New York City on America’ east coast to San Francisco in California on the west coast, by Amtrak train. The journey sounds like a poetic experience and is certainly bucket-list worthy. It skirts the Great Lakes on the Canadian border, passes over the Great Plains, through the Rocky Mountains, deserts, salt flats, and finally the Sierra Nevada Mountains before reaching the West Coast.
American filmmaker, Tom Harman, made the journey in 2015. The whole time, he took little videos of the scenery outside, which he edited into this captivating five-minute video. So today, I thought we could grab a snack from the dining car, curl up in front of a window in the observation carriage and kick back and be captivated as the beautiful American scenery passes by.
