I can’t believe it’s September already! Summer seems to have flown past and I’m in complete denial winter is on the way… so today I’m clinging on to that warm-weather feeling, with some nostalgic escapism – a look through this collection of photos bursting with California glow. The year is 1969 and it’s back to school time…
On first glance I thought: surely American high-school kids in the 1960s didn’t look this put together not to mention this happy on their first day back in the classroom after a summer holiday? Then I found out that the series of photos were staged and taken by legendary LIFE photographer, Arthur Schatz (great name), to document emerging fashion trends at the time. So let’s see what fashion tips we can steal!

I love the flowery maxi dress. I can't believe I'm seeing Christmas pics on Pinterest already! X
I know, me too. Wish you could buy this stuff still. I love Christmas but not this early! x
Having been around during this time in our fashion history…it was a time of self expression, that's for sure!! I dressed really cool for the very conservative town I grew up in, in Connecticut. Feeling quite "in my own world". Also dressing somewhat conservative when I did…I still felt…odd there. What a time!! I only wish I still had my clothes and so forth. You can find much of this on Etsy!!
