I love England in summer, those endless warm summer evenings, Pimms, strawberries, lazy Sundays on Brighton beach… it’s everything that keeps us going through winter. Honestly though (perhaps you’ll agree?), I often think Brighton seafront – as well as other English coastal towns – could do with a ‘chic’ makeover. Fewer chip shops and arcades, more beach bars and cafes, maybe?
So today, let’s up our seaside resort chic game by taking inspiration from the sophisticated St Tropeziennes who spent the summer of ’78 shamelessly flirting, sun-worshipping and strutting their stuff on the beach – not a bag of chips or pint of beer in sight. They were captured by photographer Elliott Erwitt for Magnum Photos, and each one is available to buy as a souvenir print. too.
