For the past week, I’ve spent pretty much every night in bed reading…

…the new Atlas Obscura book – An Explorer’s Guide to The World’s Hidden Wonders – until I fall asleep. It’s a collection of 700 of the world’s most mind-bloggling, amazing, weird, wonderful and fascinating sights, places and events. They’re taken from the Atlas Obscura website which I’ve been following over the years and is probably responsible for spurring my interest in off-the-beaten-path travel.

It’s the perfect book for the adventurous tourist who prefers living like a local when they travel, lovers of history and armchair travel escapism, those who think they’ve done it all, or anyone who just wants to sit, read and be amazed. It’s also beautifully illustrated and full of stunning colour photos that will immediately spark wanderlust – here’s a flick through to get you in the mood…

Pssst! Two more curious travel guides here and here.

  1. I am going to buy and do random page opening and make that my next holiday destination! As long as it's not Scunthorpe!
